Gaining Customer Awareness for Your New Business
As a new business owner one of your first priorities is to get the word out about your company. Grassroots marketing can be a low-cost but effective way to gain a large amount of exposure to locally owned businesses or other specific audiences. Grassroots marketing involves narrowing the type of customer and making your business known to those customers you’re hoping to attain.
The first step is to narrow down the business’s target customer or client. Often small businesses try to take any business they can, but that can result in a company that’s spread too thin and unable to do any one thing well. Identifying the company’s primary mission in a business plan and narrowing the scope of the company’s activities to that mission will help the entity succeed in its primary space.
Once you have narrowed down your target audience you must identify what those customers are looking for. What do they look for in products or services? What are common areas of expertise required? What are common complaints that your company could resolve? A good way to figure this out is by looking at reviews on different websites and social media.
Create advertisement using the information you’ve found through your research. Capitalizing on trending topics within the same specialty is a common way to spread knowledge of your business. Ambient ads (ads that appear in uncommon locations) are also a great way to spread notoriety. These should be strategically placed in places where key customers are often found. Supporting a common cause or charity via sponsorship can create familiarity with your brand.
